Pinhole Camera
The pinhole camera is a camera that takes negative photo's and yet they are the only camera that can have the whole picture in focus at the same time. It takes a minute or so shutter speed on a bright day.
Making a pinhole camera
Since i used a metal can rather than a cardboard due to it’s higher efficiency. Due to using this material i developed my camera in a different way to the others in my class.
To start with you have to have
1 tin with a lid
1 craft knife
a pen and pencil
a pin
black card
Black tape
and grease proof paper
a dark room with photographic paper
To start with you must cut a square in your tin about 2cm in size.
Once this is done you must put grease proof paper covering the whole taped down using the black tape.
After you have done this you need to fill the inside of the tin with black matte paper and tape it down with black tape.
After this you need to make a shutter using black tape, to dot his fold over a piece of black paper leaving a little hanging over one side. Then add a very small piece of to the side that is folded and attack it to the camera.
Then you must fill the camera with photographic paper and take pictures on a sunny day. On a sunny day 1 minute 30 is generally gets the best picture.
The picture will come up negative so you must make it positive.

Picture choreographed and taken by me. Model in photo is Patrick Somers. The photo is still negative since i believe it gives it a surreal look which you don't get with positive.
Patrick's website. I prefer this image to the one opposite, I like the negative effect makes it very difficult to make out the person behind.
One thing that I find interesting is that in real life he was looking to the right yet in this he is looking to the left as the camera picks up everything in negative and backwards. ----> The positive version of the image above, Yet I prefer the negative version. |
This photography was taken with my camera. It was choreographed by me but taken by Ben Peters. I am the silhouette behind the gate in the background.
